Nickel Hydroxide

Formula: Ni(OH)2

CAS NO.: 12054-48-7;11113-74-9

M.W.: 92.7

Feature

Apple green amorphous powder or crystal can be oxidized by bromine water, chlorine water, sodium hypochlorite, etc. at a certain temperature to form black nickel oxyhydroxide NiO(OH). Non-flammable and highly irritating. It decomposes into NiO and H2O at 230℃. Soluble in ammonia, ethylenediamine and acid.

Application

Raw materials for making nickel salts, alkaline storage batteries, electroplating, catalysts. Used for making alkaline storage batteries, nickel plating, etc.; used for making nickel salts, alkaline storage batteries, nickel plating, etc.

– Batteries: Nickel hydroxide is a key component in rechargeable nickel-metal hydride (NiMH) batteries. It serves as the positive electrode material, also known as the cathode. The reversible reaction between Ni(OH)2 and metallic nickel enables the battery’s charge and discharge cycles.

– Catalyst: Nickel hydroxide has catalytic properties and finds application in various chemical reactions. It can act as a catalyst in the oxidation of organic compounds, such as alcohols.

– Electroplating: Nickel hydroxide is sometimes used in electroplating processes to deposit a layer of nickel onto a substrate. It provides a source of nickel ions in the plating bath, which allows for the deposition of a metallic nickel coating on the desired object.

Storage

Stored in cool and dry warehouse; Keep away from flame and heat.
